Indianapolis Motor Speedway to auction off odd items

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is preparing to auction off an assortment of strange items it has acquired over the years. Betsy Smith , director of the nonprofit foundation that runs the museum, told the Indianapolis Star that no race cars or racing memorabilia will be sold at the auction Saturday.

Texas murder suspect arrested; was in Daytona for the races

Authorities say a man suspected of killing his uncle during a land dispute in Texas was arrested after coming to Florida to attend NASCAR races at Daytona International Speedway. The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports 50-year-old Joe Earl Smith told police who arrested him Thursday that he was in town “for the races.”

Hamlin upsets Junior’s return

Hamlin charged past Dale Earnhardt Jr. with one lap remaining Thursday night to deny Earnhardt a victory in a 150-mile qualifying race that Earnhardt dominated. Earnhardt led 53 of the 60 laps in the second qualifying Duel, but couldn’t hold off a Hamlin charge at the end.
