Redskins lose to Giants 19-10, blow chance to make playoffs

Facing an opponent with nothing to play for, the Washington Redskins blew their chance to make the playoffs with an uninspired 19-10 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. The Redskins would have made the playoffs with a win as long as the Green Bay Packers-Detroit Lions night game didn’t end in a tie.

Jordan Reed, Janoris Jenkins active in Washington

The Redskins need a win to get in the playoffs and they’ll have tight end Jordan Reed in the lineup to help the cause. Reed did not play last weekend because of a shoulder injury that’s been bothering him for several weeks, but he was able to practice this week and will spend the first afternoon of 2017 trying to get his team to the postseason for the second straight year.

Newton-led Panthers roll past Redskins

Cam Newton passed for 300 yards and two touchdowns, Jonathan Stewart rushed for 132 yards and the Carolina Panthers defeated the Washington Redskins 26-15 Monday night at FedEx Field. Newton completed 21 of 37 passes and tight end Greg Olsen had six catches for 85 yards for Carolina, which scored 10 points in the third quarter to go up by 14. Graham Gano kicked four field goals as the Panthers held on for its second straight win.
