MRI scans shortly after birth might help determine which premature babies have sustained a brain injury that will affect their development, a new study reports. It appears that doctors can predict which premature infants will suffer from future motor, thinking and language problems by using MRI scans to identify specific injuries to the white matter in their brain, said senior researcher Dr. Steven Miller.
