Westchester County loses AAA rank after using reserves for pay

New York's Westchester County, home to the wealthy suburbs of Scarsdale and Bronxville, lost its AAA grade from S&P Global Ratings Inc. and Fitch Ratings after drawing down its cash reserves to cover retroactive raises given to government employees. The county, which borders New York City to the north, had its grade cut one level by both companies Tuesday to AA+.

This Westchester Locale Ranks Highest For Best Place To Raise A Family

Bronxville took the top honors, according to a report released by Niche this week, which ranked the best places to raise a family in New York based on the quality of public schools, safety, affordability and access to family amenities based on collected data. Several Westchester locales made the list, with Bronxville on top, at fourth overall with A+ grades across the board.

Bronxville High School Students Celebrated For Efforts On Gun Safety

Students from the Bronxville High School were among those celebrated for taking a stand in the debate on gun violence at the New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Westchester Regional benefit, which was held in Eastchester on April 26. Seniors Viena Pentikainen and Kiki Shinsato, sophomore Esther Devitt and freshman Michael Randall were invited to attend by Scarsdale Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, who was one of the honorees at the event. Throughout the evening, the students heard from Paulin who spoke about the importance of listening to people with different points of view.

A 39-year-old woman from Bronxville was busted in Scarsdale with a blood alcohol content nearly double the legal limit over the weekend.
