Greeley Students Seek To Save School Counselor’s Job

Dozens of students from Horace Greeley High School have rallied around a guidance counselor they believe may be forced from the Chappaqua school district after being denied tenure, according to The Examiner. Student Life Coordinator Kristin Spillane was hired for the newly created position of outreach counselor for students in 2014, but could soon see her position eliminated, according to The Examiner, which said that more than 30 students at a recent school board meeting "confronted trustees over rampant speculation" of Spillane's departure.

Westchester Communities, Colleges Set ‘Relay For Life’ Events

Hundreds, if not thousands, of folks will be lacing up their running shoes this spring all over Westchester to help fight a deadly disease. The American Cancer Society says that 13 Relay for Life events have been scheduled for May 20 through June 19. The community led events will be held in: Eastchester, Mamaroneck, Chappaqua, Harrison, Katonah-Lewisboro, the Tarrytowns, Yorktown, Yonkers, Somers, Ossining and the Hendrick Hudson School District.

Chappaqua School District Issues Followup Lead Tests For Drinking Water

The Chappaqua school district has taken steps toward eliminating high lead levels from its water sources, but still has more work to do, according to a recent letter from Interim Superintendent of Schools Dan McCann. According to the school district, more than 740 test samples were taken from the district's six schools in September and October yielding proof that dangerous levels of lead were present at numerous water sources in each building.

Ossining’s Robotics Wizards Move To First Lego League Tourney Semifinals

A group of Ossining middle school students with a collective talent for robotics has advanced to the semifinals of the Hudson Valley FIRST LEGO League qualifying tournament. The team, which goes by the name Robotics Wizards, hails from Anne M. Dorner Middle School, according to a statement from the Ossining school district, which said the team scored well in the three-part competition on Jan. 21 in Chappaqua.
