Popular Deli Damaged In Northern Westchester Fire

A quick response and plenty of help enabled firefighters to save a popular Northern Westchester deli and pizzeria from a fast-moving fire, according to the Croton Falls Fire Chief Dan Dreyer. The department received a call for the fire at Kingsley's Deli & Pizzeria in North Salem around 10:49 p.m. Sunday, from a resident of one of the upstairs apartments who saw smoke coming from the building, Dreyer said.

After 11 years, the Croton Falls steakhouse -- it won our 2017 DVlicious "Best Steakhouse in Westchester" contest --- will end its run on Sunday, Oct. 29. To celebrate its hold in the neighborhood --- and to thank its customers -- Owners Liam Harvey and Jim Stake will host a special customer appreciation party on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The new owner will keep the space a restaurant but most likely change the vibe, name, and menu, according to Stake.

Somers Family Is Behind New Pizzeria In Croton Falls

That's because this three-month-old pizzeria -- it opened on West Cross Street June 7 -- is family owned with Frank Lulgjuraj, his wife Suzana, and kids Alex and Ava, often behind the counter. Lulgjuraj, who previously owned a pizzeria/restaurant in Brookfield, Conn., said he's happy to finally be able to serve his own community -- he lives in Somers.

‘Croton Falls Gang’ Eager For Reunion

Once upon a time, there was a group of kids who all lived in a small North Salem neighborhood where they called themselves the "Croton Falls Gang," and played outside until dark before running home for dinner. Today, those same "kids" are in their 50s and 60s, and some have stayed in touch, but most haven't seen each other in years.

North Salem Supervisor Suggests Changes For Busy Croton Falls Intersection

North Salem Supervisor Warren Lucas is working to help residents and commuters from throughout the area who fight the daily backup of traffic headed southbound on 202 coming into Croton Falls. Lucas said on Facebook that numerous residents had complained about the problem with driver's taking a right on Route 22 near the Baptist Church, and then a left at the light on Route 202 to bypass the backup on Route 202 coming south.

The North Salem Historical Society held its annual meeting at the new Croton Falls Firehouse recently, focusing the event on the hamlet's deep history. Described as a "unique venue" for the meeting that's "indicative of how far Croton Falls has progressed," the firehouse hosted talks from Cynthia Curtis, president of the Historical Society, and several longtime residents, according to a statement from the historical organization.
