Four Assemblymen Call On Cuomo To Authorize Municipal Occupancy Fees

Four local lawmakers have written to Gov. Andrew Cuomo reminding him of his promise to sign legislation authorizing the imposition of municipal occupancy fees in certain Westchester and Orange communities. In a letter dated Thursday, Dec. 29, the members of the state Assembly noted that in late 2015, the governor had vetoed a series of hotel occupancy tax bills that would have affected 13 municipalities in Westchester County - Greenburgh, North Castle, Tarrytown, Irvington, Ardsley, Elmsford, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Sleepy Hollow, Tuckahoe, Mamaroneck, Harrison and Port Chester - and one in Orange County, Woodbury.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is leading the charge of Hudson Valley officials that are against a proposal that would allow barge parking anchor points off the shore. On Monday afternoon, Dobbs Ferry Schools Superintendent Lisa Brady announced that two students were being charged as juveniles with falsely reporting an incident, making terroristic threats and second-degree aggravated harassment following a police investigation into an Instagram post they deemed "inappropriate."

Citing a "bombshell" report released by Pace University, New York State Sen. Sue Serino has joined the cacophony of elected officials in the Hudson Valley that are protesting a proposal from the Coast Guard that would create anchorage sites for barges along the Hudson River. Cooking For A Cause: NWH, The Cookery Host Breast Cancer Awareness Dinner

Northern Westchester Hospital is partnering with Dobbs Ferry-based The Cookery to offer some of the area's best dishes for a good cause in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraising Dinner, which will be held on Monday, Dec. 5. Guests can join Dr. Anthony Cahan, NWH's chief of breast surgical services, and David DiBari, owner of The Cookery and a Culinary Institute of America graduate, for dinner and an auction. All proceeds support a shared mission to raise breast cancer awareness and help fund breast imaging services for community women in need.
