CEO Of Westchester Facility Housing Migrant Kids Speaks Out

The President and CEO of a Westchester facility which is home to several children who were separated from their families from their parents at the Mexican border, is the latest official to speak out against President Donald Trump's administration's policy impacting migrant families. Many of the children are being housed at Children's Village in Dobbs Ferry, which, according to its website, "works in partnership with families to help society's most vulnerable children so that they become educationally proficient, economically productive, and socially responsible members of their communities."

With a population of just over 11,000, Dobbs Ferry, New York is your typical sleepy town, except for one thing: When the first school bell rings, kids actually feel awake. Prior to the 2015-2016 school year, Dobbs Ferry middle schoolers started at 8:15 a.m. and high schoolers at 7:30 a.m. Under the new policy, both schools now start approximately 30 minutes later and end 15 minutes later.

Last September, Dobbs Ferry School District joined a small but growing cluster of schools around the US that have started pushing back their middle and high school start times in an effort to combat student grogginess.
