Off-Duty Cop From Westchester Pleads Killer In Crash That Killed Friend

A New Rochelle police officer who was drinking off-duty when he crashed his vehicle in January, killing his best friend, has pleaded guilty to his role in the fatal incident. Harry Kyreakedes pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court on Friday to a felony charge of first-degree vehicular manslaughter and aggravated driving while intoxicated after being indicted by a grand jury in May. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. said that at approximately midnight on Jan. 2, Kyreakedes was out drinking with friends, including his victim, 27-year-old Isaac Ward, at a bar in Dobbs Ferry.

New Rochelle Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter in Crash-Related Death

Scarpino, Jr. today announced that Harry Kyreakedes, 27, pled guilty before Judge Barry Warhit to one count of Vehicular Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class "C" Felony and one count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated Per Se, an unclassified Misdemeanor, in the death of Isaac Ward, 28. On January 1, 2017, Kyreakedes, an off-duty New Rochelle Police Officer, was out drinking with friends, including the victim, at a bar in Dobbs Ferry. After a period of time, they drove to White Plains to frequent another bar.

The founder of Facebook, a former New York City mayor, a presidential candidate and several investors are among a long list of Hudson Valley residents who are included in the newly released Forbes 400, the magazine's annual ranking of the richest Americans in terms of net worth. Leading the list is 32-year-old Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, a White Plains native who grew up in Dobbs Ferry and attended Ardsley High School.

Vigil Honors White Plains Man 20 Years After Slaying

The 20th anniversary of the shooting death of Charles Campbell was marked with a somber vigil Monday outside the Westchester County Courthouse in White Plaines, according to lohud.com. Family and friends of Campbell, a White Plains sanitation worker, gathered to remember how his life was cut short after an argument on Oct. 3, 1996, outside a Dobbs Ferry delicatessen.
