Bronxville High School Students Celebrated For Efforts On Gun Safety

Students from the Bronxville High School were among those celebrated for taking a stand in the debate on gun violence at the New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Westchester Regional benefit, which was held in Eastchester on April 26. Seniors Viena Pentikainen and Kiki Shinsato, sophomore Esther Devitt and freshman Michael Randall were invited to attend by Scarsdale Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, who was one of the honorees at the event. Throughout the evening, the students heard from Paulin who spoke about the importance of listening to people with different points of view.

Eastchester Educators Warn Parents Of Netflix Suicide Show Dangers

Administrators in Eastchester became the latest educators to reach out to students and parents regarding the recently released Netflix show "13 Reasons Why," which contains themes of suicide and bullying. Since its release on Netflix, there has been a growing cacophony of concerned Westchester County educators who have cautioned parents about the perils of the show, which is based on the young adult novel of the same name by author Jay Asher.

Community Raises $10,000 for Reading Challenge

Both a book fair and fundraiser were held at Barnes & Noble of Eastchester this month, generating $10,202.14 for the Superintendent's Reading Challenge of the Mount Vernon City School District. "The school district has an outstanding partner in Barnes & Noble of Eastchester for the Superintendent's Reading Challenge Fundraiser," said Board of Education Trustee Darcy Miller.

Superintendent’s Reading Challenge Fundraiser Scheduled At B&N Eastchester

The Mount Vernon City School District and the Mount Vernon PTA Council will host the Superintendent's Reading Challenge Fundraiser on Monday, March 13, at Barnes & Noble of Eastchester in the Vernon Hills Shopping Center in Scarsdale. Tickets are $75 per person in advance and $100 per person at the door.

Westchester Eighth-Grader Has Composition Played By New York Philharmonic

An eighth-grade student from Westchester took his talents from Westchester into New York City this week, where a piece of music he composed was performed by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Benjamin Araujo of Eastchester, who plays trombone for the Eastchester Middle School band under the direction of teacher Mark Dodge, had his latest composition "A Postcard from New York City" performed by some of the world's most talented musicians at Geffen Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Middle School Principal Scott Wynne praised Araujo for his initiative and talent, having previously written songs for the middle school band and before stepping up to the big stage with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
