Westchester Communities, Colleges Set ‘Relay For Life’ Events

Hundreds, if not thousands, of folks will be lacing up their running shoes this spring all over Westchester to help fight a deadly disease. The American Cancer Society says that 13 Relay for Life events have been scheduled for May 20 through June 19. The community led events will be held in: Eastchester, Mamaroneck, Chappaqua, Harrison, Katonah-Lewisboro, the Tarrytowns, Yorktown, Yonkers, Somers, Ossining and the Hendrick Hudson School District.

Van Overturns On Southbound I-684

There were stop-and-go delays on a stretch of southbound I-684 Tuesday after a van overturned south of Route 35 in Katonah. Slippery conditions are being reported on many roadways in the area after snow started to fall late in the morning.

Car Slams Into Home In Somers

Emergency responders are at the scene of a crash Saturday in which a car slammed into a home on North Lane in Somers, off Moseman Avenue. There has been no word on the extent of damage to the home, which is located in a Katonah mailing address near Muscoot Farm, or any possible injuries.

Swastikas Found On Tree At John Jay High School

Swastika drawings and carvings were found on a tree at John Jay High School, according to multiple news reports, citing a letter to parents from Principal Steven Siciliano. "I wish to reiterate that this is reprehensible and not tolerated at John Jay High School or anywhere in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District," Siciliano was quoted as writing on Thursday.

Lewisboro Elementary Swastika Graffiti Suspects Are Local Students

Three individuals who are accused of painting graffiti that included swastikas onto playground equipment at the shuttered Lewisboro Elementary School are students in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District, according to Superintendent Andrew Selesnick Lewisboro Elementary School was closed in 2014 due to declining enrollment in younger grades. Students were transferred to other schools in the district.

Three Arrested In Lewisboro Elementary School Graffiti Incident

Three juvenile subjects have been arrested following a report of graffiti, including a swastika, at the former Lewisboro Elementary School grounds The three, whose names are not being released, have been charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree in connection with the incident that was reported on Dec. 27. The graffiti was initially found and reported by a community member, Katonah-Lewisboro Schools Superintendent Andrew Selesnick announced in an email to parents at the time. Lewisboro Elementary School, which is located in South Salem, was closed in June 2014 due to falling enrollment in the school district's youngest grades.
