Six adults and a child were displaced Tuesday after a fire broke out in a mixed-use building on Mamaroneck Avenue, according to lohud.com. Village police opened their headquarters to the fire victims, allowing them to stay dry while firefighters battled the blaze in the rain, according to lohud.com, which reported that the victims - members of three separate families - later received assistance from the American Red Cross.

Rye Neck HS Teacher Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said investigators discovered Nicholas Pagliuca was a teacher at Rye Neck High School in Mamaroneck after tracking an email address he used to register with a child pornography website.The 65-year-old Somers resident is charged with one count of possession of child pornography, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, and one count of receipt of child pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. He has worked at the school as a science teacher for more than two decades.

$1.3 Million Awarded for Community-Based Projects to Improve Health…

Town of Mamaroneck, N.Y. - Today, top federal and state environmental officials from New York and Connecticut announced 25 grants totaling $1.3 million to local government and community groups to improve the health and ecosystem of Long Island Sound. The projects, which are funded through the Long Island Sound Futures Fund , will restore 27 acres of habitat, including coastal forest, dunes, and salt marshes for fish and wildlife.

White Plains To Spend $440,000 To Fix Popular Downtown Fountains

The White Plains's Common Council has approved spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair the fountains at the city's Renaissance Plaza at the intersection of Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue, according to a report by lohud.com. Mayor Tom Roach said he thought restoring the $4 million water feature, built around 2003, would bolster the plaza's reputation as the heart of the city's downtown, and local business owners have supported repair plans, but the $440,000 project didn't wash with at least two board members, lohud.com reported.

Meteor Shower, Supermoon To Light Skies Larchmont, Mamaroneck Skies

The largest supermoon since 1948 will be making an appearance Monday night, Nov. 14, and the Leonid Meteor shower is due to reach its peak during the early hours of Thursday, Nov. 17. The meteor show will be dulled a bit due to it coming just three days after this rare and large supermoon - so the sky will be bright with a 90% lit moon - but sky-watchers can expect to find approximately 15 meteors per hour under dark sky conditions. The November supermoon is the second of three to close out the year, but this one will see the moon make its closest pass to Earth in decades.

Mamaroneck Nonprofit Raises Funds For Pediatric Cancer At Purchase Event

Pediatric Cancer Foundation , the 46-year-old, Mamaroneck-based nonprofit committed to fighting pediatric cancer, raised more than $225,000 at its Rock The Cure Gala Wednesday, Nov. 2. The event, which featured legendary rock music by Unforgettable Fire, a world-renowned U2 cover band, was all about generating funds to support research, state of the art equipment/instruments and patient/parent care for doctors at the hospitals PCF supports. Held at the Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, the gala -- which attracted more than 250 attendees -- honored the memory of Paul Ulysses Jimenez, a 10-year-old Westchester County boy who passed away in January, 2016, from Rhabdomyosarcoma , a rare form of cancer of the skeletal muscles.
