Funeral services have been set for former Mount Vernon Mayor Ronald Blackwood, who passed away last week at the age of 91. Locally, a public service has been set for noon on Thursday at the Grace Baptist Church, with a mass scheduled for Saturday in New Symrna Beach, Florida, where he died last week due to complications from Parkinson's disease, according to his obituary. An immigrant, Blackwood was born in Jamaica before making his way to Mount Vernon, where he was elected as mayor in 1985, making him the first black mayor elected in New York State.
