Mount Vernon Mayor: ‘Rally For Reform’ With Students To End Gun Violence

A star-studded guest list has been invited to participate in a "rally for reform" with students in Mount Vernon to end gun violence. The "Rally for Reform, March for Our Lives" event will be held beginning at noon on Saturday, March 3 at City Hall, where Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas plans to rally with local students in advance of a bus trip to an anti-violence rally in Washington, D.C. later this month.

‘Slide The City’ Canceled In Mount Vernon

Those planning to cool down and beat the heat by " sliding the city " this weekend are out of luck as the event in Mount Vernon has been canceled. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas announced on Wednesday that "due to a combination of factors outside our control," city officials have been forced to indefinitely postpone the "Slide the City" event, which drew a sizable crowd at the inaugural event last year.

Superintendent’s Reading Challenge Fundraiser Scheduled At B&N Eastchester

The Mount Vernon City School District and the Mount Vernon PTA Council will host the Superintendent's Reading Challenge Fundraiser on Monday, March 13, at Barnes & Noble of Eastchester in the Vernon Hills Shopping Center in Scarsdale. Mount Vernon native DMX was back in Westchester recently to thank the Yonkers police officers who helped save his life at a local hotel parking lot earlier this year. In February, the rapper was rushed to the hospital after first responders were alerted of a man who had collapsed, wasn't breathing and was unresponsive in the parking lot of the Ramada Inn in Yonkers.
