A Mount Vernon basketball standout is taking his talents to Virginia after signing his National Letter of Intent to play ball for George Mason University next year. Surrounded by friends, family, former coaches and teammates, Jason Douglas-Stanley ended his recruitment and made it official that he'll be playing for coach Dave Paulsen and the Patriots.

Police arrest suspect in fatal shooting of Mount Vernon teen

Police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Shamoya McKenzie - the Mount Vernon student who had dreams of playing basketball for the University of Connecticut and the WNBA. A Mount Vernon police spokesman did not disclose further information about the arrest but said a press conference is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
