In their continued efforts to curtail gun violence in Mount Vernon, city officials came together for the second annual "Stop the Violence" basketball tournament. Over the weekend, city officials hosted the second Project SNUG - guns spelled backward - basketball tournament, which is part of a "transformative initiative aimed at reducing violence in neighborhoods."

High-Schooler Perfect in National 3D Archery Tourney

Iowa's Logan Kelly has become the first archer to shoot a perfect score in 3D competition when he shot a 300 on June 17 at the International Bowhunters Organization Midwest Invitational National Archery in the Schools Program 3D Challenge tournament, in Bloomington, Ind. Logan Kelly, from Mount Vernon, scored the first perfect round in a national 3D archery competition.

‘Parade Of Champions’ For Mount Vernon Basketball Champions Postponed

With rain expected to hit the area this week, officials in Mount Vernon have been forced to postpone the victory parade planned to celebrate the boy's varsity basketball team's state championship. On Wednesday, officials announced that due to the scheduled forecast, they were forced to postpone the parade - originally scheduled for Thursday - for two weeks, to Wednesday, April 19. The parade will step off at noon on April 19, starting at the Mount Vernon High School and continuing through to Mount Vernon City Hall.
