Victim, Suspect ID’d In Fatal Westchester Stabbing

The victim and suspect in a fatal stabbing that occurred Thursday night in New Rochelle were identified by authorities late Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at around 6:37 p.m. when units from the New Rochelle Police Department responded to multiple calls of a disturbance at 138 Winthrop Ave, where they located the man with a serious stab wound to his chest in front of 138 Winthrop Ave. The man was transported by ambulance to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where he subsequently died from the wound at approximately 1 a.m. Friday.

New Rochelle City Council Votes To Bring One-Way Traffic To Anderson Street

In an effort to provide additional parking, promote local business and encourage pedestrian traffic downtown, New Rochelle officials have announced another change in traffic patterns for the business district . On Wednesday, the New Rochelle City Council unanimously approved that Anderson Street, between North Avenue and Le Count Place will be converted to one-way eastbound traffic beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 10. By making the change, the city creates two new parking lanes on either side of the street.

Iona’s Economic Impact on New York State Totals $258 Million

New Rochelle's Iona College is the town's second-largest private employer which contributes as much as $258.5 million a year to the regional economy, according to a recent report. The study, conducted on behalf of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities by the Center for Governmental Research, shows that in 2015 the college spent $99.4 million in wages, providing 1,850 local jobs, and contributed $7.3 million in state income and sales tax.
