MBK to Present Free Talk on Implicit Bias

The public is invited to a talk on implicit bias next Thursday, presented by My Brother's Keeper New Rochelle. The free talk, "We Are All Biased," will explore the question: "To what extent does our bias affect others?" The 90-minute presentation will be delivered by Dr. Bryant Marks, a professor of psychology at Morehouse College in Atlanta.

“One City, Many Flavors!”

Celebrating the flavorful variety of cuisines available in New Rochelle, the second annual FoodFest kicks off Sunday, October 8. Presented by the City of New Rochelle in partnership with the BID and Chamber of Commerce, participating restaurants will offer their own ideal FoodFest special, from prix fixe menus and discounts to buy one/get one offers, uniquely designed to showcase each restaurant's food and atmosphere. Restaurants are located throughout New Rochelle and provide tastes from 20 different nationalities and at a range of prices.

DACA Renewal Applications Due Oct. 5

Residents in the United States under DACA permission set to expire by March 5 have less than a week to apply for a two-year extension. The City School District of New Rochelle is partnering with the City of New Rochelle to make sure affected residents are aware that they must apply for the extension from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services by Oct. 5. The city and school district are distributing a flier with information on DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, and on where to get help.

Columbus Rallies to Help Victims of Natural Disasters

Columbus Elementary was a hive of activity on Saturday as students, parents, teachers and community members poured into the school carrying food and supplies for victims of a devastating earthquake in Mexico and storms in the Caribbean. Principal Michael Galland said the school agreed to serve as a collection site for donations following a request from the Fundacion Manos de Esperanza, a New Rochelle charity.

Maura O'Malley, a New Rochelle native, was named a 2017 Influencer in Aging by PBS's Next Avenue , a digital publication devoted to covering issues for people 50 and older. Suspected Triggerman In Shooting Of Yonkers Officer Charged In Hospital

The suspected triggerman in the shooting of a Yonkers female police officer was charged Thursday in his hospital bed as he recovers from being by return fire in a shootout with police earlier this week. New Rochelle resident Frank Valencia, 18, was arraigned at Westchester Medical Center after he allegedly shot officer Kayla Maher in the jaw on Monday night during a shootout in the Park Hill section of Yonkers.

Bail Set At $100K For Suspect In Shooting Of Female Yonkers Police Officer

One of the two shooters implicated in the shooting of Yonkers Police Officer Kayla Maher appeared in court on Wednesday to answer the charge. New Rochelle resident Jerry Reyes, 22, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon for his role in the shooting, which hospitalized Maher after she was struck by a bullet in the jaw during a firefight.
