Four Alumni Achieve NRHS Wall of Fame

A former Jaguars football player, a state Solicitor General, a New Rochelle City Councilman and a prominent Yale doctor will be added to the New Rochelle High School Wall of Fame at a ceremony on Nov. 29. The inductees are: Courtney Greene , a former safety for the Jacksonville Jaguars; City Councilman Jared Rice who is also a partner in the New Rochelle law firm of Rice and Rice; Dr. Roy S. Herbst , Chief of Medical Oncology at the Yale Cancer Center; and Dr. AndrA e Kahn Blumstein , the Solicitor General for the State of Tennessee. The event begins at 5 p.m. in the House II stack area of the high school, 265 Clove Road.

1st Annual Community Baby Shower

Retirement Party for Police Commissioner Patrick J. Carroll

Nine student musicians from New Rochelle High School were among the best high school musicians in the county performing in the Westchester County Area All-State Music Festival Concert on Nov. 16. The New Rochelle musicians and musical groups they played with were: Annael Alvarez, soprano I, treble chorus; Isabella Gonzalez, soprano I, mixed chorus; Alissa Johnson, clarinet, symphony orchestra; Taz Kim, cello, symphony orchestra; Jada Miller, violin I, string orchestra; Elijah Pomerantz, alto saxophone, band; Julianne Paccione, violin I, string orchestra; David Rubertone, tenor II, mixed chorus; and Gabriella Sgobbo, soprano II, mixed chorus.

College Of New Rochelle Faces Third Wrongful Termination Lawsuit

A lawsuit was filed in state Supreme Court last week by Kayla Brown, according to a lohud report , making it the third suit the college is battling from jilted employees who saw their positions terminated as the school cut costs to keep its doors open. According to the report , Brown is seeking the remainder of the salary that was owed to her from her contract, which was to end on June 30. She was fired during the first round of layoffs last year.

Free 2-Hour Holiday Parking through December 1-30

In continuation of an annual tradition and to promote holiday shopping in New Rochelle, the City will offer two hours of free holiday parking in certain municipal lots. Free two-hour holiday parking in municipal lots will be in effect from 9 am to 9 pm beginning Thursday, December 1 through Saturday, December 30. Normal parking regulations will resume on Monday, January 1, 2018.

Judith A. Melita of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on November 25, 2017, while holding hands with her daughter Jessica and her significant other Tony, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House. She was born on October 29, 1946, in New Rochelle, New York, to the late Francis and Anna Stock.

Westchester Woman Appointed To A Top Position In NHL League Office

A Westchester native has worked her way up to the top and has earned a prestigious position inside the National Hockey League's front office. Kim Davis, who calls New Rochelle home, has been named the NHL's Executive Vice President of Social Impact, Growth Initiatives of Legislative Affairs, where she will report directly to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and the league's owners.

A former NFL player from New Rochelle and state Solicitor General are among the four honorees whose achievements have earned a spot on the New Rochelle High School Wall of Fame. This year's Wall of Fame inductees include Courtney Greene , a former safety for the Jacksonville Jaguars, City Councilman Jared Rice , Dr. Roy S. Herbst , the Chief of Medical Oncology at the Yale Cancer Center and Dr. Andree Kahn Blumstein , the Solicitor General for the State of Tennessee.

He was born in Bronxville on May 3, 1951 and spent the first part of his life in New Rochelle until he enlisted in the USAF. Once he retired he moved to Florida and a few years later he began splitting his time between Willsboro, and Lakeland, Florida.

12/10 Library Presentation to Commemorate World War I Anniversary 2 PM

"New Rochelle's Part in the Great War," a free digital slide program, will be presented by city historian Barbara Davis on Sunday, December 10, at 2:00 pm in the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library. New Rochelle played a unique role in World War I, due to these factors: the largest recruiting depot east of the Mississippi was located at Fort Slocum, on New Rochelle's Davids Island; a large number of local and notable illustrators were engaged in creating propaganda posters for the war effort; and New Rochelle provided significant aid to its war-torn sister city, La Rochelle, France.
