With frigid weather gripping the region, it's a good time to be reminded that there is an easy and effective way to report issues regarding City School District of New Rochelle building conditions or operations. Icy blasts bring their own set of challenges to maintaining school buildings, and the freezing temperatures make it even more important to ensure that classrooms, auditoriums and other areas remain safe, comfortable spaces that are optimum for learning.

BOE Urges Continuation of CHIP, DACA programs

The New Rochelle Board of Education urged Congress and President Trump this week to continue two federal programs that help many children obtain health insurance and protect undocumented residents from deportation if their parents brought them to the United States when they were young. The Children's Health Insurance Program was created in 1997 to provide coverage for children in families that did not qualify for Medicaid and could not afford private insurance.

Language Offerings to Become Consistent

A committee of parents, teachers and administrators is working on redesigning the City School District of New Rochelle's world language offerings at the elementary level to provide equitable access to high-quality language instruction from an early age throughout the District. A robust language program in schools is invaluable in preparing students for an increasingly international society.

Men’s Basketball Wins Second Straight Against Touro

The College of New Rochelle's men's basketball team concluded their first semester slate of games on Tuesday night as they captured their second consecutive win, defeating Touro College by the score of 85 to 62. The win was the team's fourth in its last five contests. They now enter Winter break with a record of five wins and six losses.

Women’s Basketball Falls to USMMA

The College of New Rochelle women's basketball team hosted the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Monday afternoon at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Blue Angels lost to the Mariners by a final score of 40 - 74. Sophomore Melissa Perez and senior Chelsea Thomas both scored a team-high nine points apiece.

Some New Rochelle Lakes & Ponds Open for Skating

The recent Arctic blast has one upside: some of New Rochelle's skating lakes and ponds have been inspected and are now open for skating effective today, January 2. Park staff have posted white signs with red lettering indicating skating is now permitted at these locations: Paine Lake, the South Lake of Huguenot Park/Twin Lakes at New Rochelle High School, and Carpenter's Pond. Skating is permitted only in areas designated by park barricades.

RFP-NR-5208 – License Agreement – Indoor Tennis Facility

The City of New Rochelle and the City's Department of Parks and Recreation is soliciting proposals for the development, operation, maintenance, management and lease of an enclosed tennis facility at Pinebrook Tennis Center. Currently, eight outdoor tennis courts and four outdoor lighted platform/paddle courts are located and operating at the Pinebrook Tennis Center.

Former New Rochelle Police Officer Sentenced to Prison for Drunk…

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. today announced that Harry Kyreakedes , a former New Rochelle Police Officer, has been sentenced to 2 A1 2 to 7 A1 2 years in state prison for the 2017 drunk driving crash that resulted in the death of Isaac Ward, a passenger in his car. Kyreakedes pled guilty in October before Judge Barry Warhit, who handed down his sentence today, to one count of Vehicular Manslaughter in the First Degree, a class "C" Felony, and one count of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated Per Se, an unclassified Misdemeanor.
