Sporting serving aprons, Interim Superintendent Dr. Magda Parvey and New Rochelle City Manager Charles Strome III stood along with other city administrators and staff in the House IV cafeteria of New Rochelle High School, serving 150 residents at the annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner. More than a dozen local businesses made the evening possible with their donations, including 15 turkeys from ShopRite.

New Rochelle School District Adds Eid al-Fitr to 2018-19 Calendar

The City School District of New Rochelle calendar for 2018-2019 includes a newly added holiday: the Islamic celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which will be observed on June 5, 2019. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, and falls on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.

Enjoy NR Fund’s Community Pancake Breakfast

Whether you call them pancakes, hotcakes, griddlecakes, or flapjacks, be sure to stop by New Rochelle High School on Saturday, Nov. 18 beginning at 8 a.m. for the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence's annual pancake breakfast, followed by New Rochelle's Thanksgiving Parade. Join district administrators, principals and Board of Education members for this fun, child-friendly, community-wide event where you can enjoy tasty short stacks of pancakes alongside your neighbors.

Merchant Urchin Parade in New Rochelle

On Oct. 28, all are invited to join in the fun at the annual Merchant Urchin Costume Parade, lining up at 9:45 a.m. on New Street in New Roc City, in front of the Regal Cinema. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., file through downtown, then proceed to the Library Green, for treats, pumpkin painting, face painting, a Halloween photobooth, crafts, balloons and more! This family-friendly event is presented by the BID, the New Rochelle Parks Department, the New Rochelle Public Library and the Grand Market.

Pancake Breakfast and Thanksgiving Parade

On November 19th, the Fund was pleased to host its annual Pancake Breakfast at New Rochelle High School before the 53rd Annual New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade! The Breakfast was a huge success, welcoming 400 people from our community. Attendees were able to check-in for the parade onsite and have an opportunity to meet Frank Bernabei, this year's Grand Marshall! Thanks again to all of the Board of Education, District Administrators and School Principals for helping to flip and serve pancakes and to Whitsons Culinary Group for their support.

New Rochelle’s Campus Alternative H.S. Students Experience Joys Of Giving

As the holiday season progresses and the calls to assist people in need become louder, one area high school program is leading by example. The students and faculty of New Rochelle High School's Campus Alternative high school kicked off the 2016 holiday season by collecting more than 250 turkeys for New Rochelle families in need, according to a statement from the school.

The 53rd Annual New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade is on Saturday at 10 AM all along North Avenue and on Main Street until Maple Ave. Every year the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and the City of New Rochelle host parade the Saturday before Thanksgiving that is the largest one in New York outside of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. This year the parade is going to include giant balloons for the first time.

New Rochelle Schools Comply with New State Regulations on Lead-Water Testing at Elementary Schools

Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne issued a statement Wednesday updating the New Rochelle school community on ongoing lead-water testing in buildings throughout the school district. In the statement, Osborne notes that on September 6th, 2016, New York State implemented new legislation and regulations requiring all potential drinking water outlets in elementary schools to be tested for lead by September 30th.
