‘If You Build It, They Will Buzz:’ New Rochelle Students Craft Bee Habitats

Several New Rochelle elementary school students are working together to create a mini ecosystem they hope will prove to be the "bee's knees." Second graders at Columbus Elementary School helped assemble the first of five outdoor garden beds that will be interconnected to create an environment where colorful flowers will grow, creating a habitat fit for bees, butterflies and birds on the campus grounds.

The Hudson Park Children's Greenhouse committee will present its proposal to the New Rochelle City Council Committee of the Whole on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. The group was formed to save and restore the Hudson Park Children's Greenhouse, formerly known as the Hudson Park/Wildcliff Greenhouse. The building is a historic Lord and Burnham structure that was built in the early 20th century.

College Of New Rochelle Selling Off Assets To Pay Off $20M In Unpaid Taxes

Last month, the college's Board of Trustees launched an investigation into financial misappropriations that revealed upwards of $20 in payroll taxes that were not paid for eight quarters dating back to 2014 under the watch of former CNR President Judith Huntington, who resigned in October. With its future as a stand-alone institution in doubt, the College announced that it has secured the services from Madison Hawk to conduct a real estate auction of non-core assets to raise funds.
