Sweet! Valentine’s Day Bake-Off To Help North Salem Ambulance Corps

Bakers, judges and tasters, sharpen your sweet tooths; the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance's Valentine Cookie Competition is about to begin. Well, actually, you still have plenty of time to shop for cinnamon, flour, chocolate and sprinkles; the bake-off isn't going down until Sunday, Feb. 12. Contestants will be able to show off their own creations, or trot out old family favorites, but even if you're not a baker, there's plenty of fun to be had.

Somers Teen Charged With Arson, Burglary Of North Salem Home

A Somers teenager is facing felony charges after he broke into a North Salem home and allegedly attempted to set the house on fire using gasoline. State Police announced Friday that Jeremiah Healy, 17, has been arrested and charged with felony counts of arson, burglary and criminal mischief after he was caught breaking in through a kitchen window and causing fire damage in the home.

North Salem Ambulance Corps Grew From Humble Beginnings

Phyllis Swidorski was waiting for the Somers Ambulance Corps to come to the aid of an injured child back in 1969 when she decided North Salem really needed its own emergency services. So together with a group of like-minded citizens, she sought donations and benefactors and was rewarded by the North Salem Lions Club, which funded the purchase of a secondhand ambulance.
