Peekskill Schools Employee Debra McLeod Honored As ‘Outstanding Citizen’

Peekskill City School District's Debra McLeod was honored as an "Outstanding Citizen" at a City Council meeting on Feb. 14. The City of Peekskill celebrates Black History Month each February by honoring outstanding African-American members of the community for their personal and/or professional achievements, civic contributions, and general good deeds that have favorably impacted local citizens, according to a release from the school district. McLeod works as a senior office assistant to the superintendent of Peekskill Schools, and has served as the Peekskill City School District's clerk for the past 12 years.

Peekskill City School District Provides Info On Lockout

Officials at the Peekskill Middle School received an early morning scare on Thursday, following a police investigation that resulted in a "suspicious individual" being taken into custody on trespassing charges. At approximately 9:30 a.m., a suspicious individual was spotted on the middle school campus, prompting administrators to enter its precautionary lockout protocol, district communications specialist Laura Belfiore said.

Peekskill Students, Parents, Others Stand Up For School Funding

A contingent of Peekskill students, parents and educators have hand-delivered a stack of letters to Sen. Terrence Murphy's Yorktown office asking the state to cough up millions in school aid. The advocates are demanding that Gov. Andrew Cuomo unfreeze the state's Foundation Aid and phase in the $11 million that the school district is owed.
