Verplanck Man Fails To Appear In Court, Yorktown Police Say

A man accused of petit larceny found himself back in Yorktown Justice Court this week, after he was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court. Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, Verplanck resident Christopher Sheppard, 32, voluntarily surrendered himself into custody at the Yorktown Police Department after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to appear in court.

Police Pursue BMW With Missing Cortlandt Teen Believed To Be Aboard

Authorities are pursuing a 2014 grey BMW in connection with a missing 16-year-old Verplanck teen, according to state police. Samantha Lucero, 16, of Verplanck who was first reported missing in June 2016, and again in January, has been seen in the Cortlandt area and may be with the man driving the car, according to Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.

Police: Verplanck Pair Stayed Overnight In Watergate Motel Without Paying

A pair of Verplanck women who snuck into the Watergate Motel in Croton-on-Hudson and spent the night a couple of times in December, were caught on Monday after the motel called the New York State Police to complain. Sarah Pisanelli, 19, and Carrie F. Roberts, 23, were charged with two counts of criminal trespass after an investigation by troopers revealed the duo had stayed overnight at the motel in Croton-on-Hudson, without permission or paying on two occasions, said state police.

Cortlandt has received a hefty grant that will help it protect one of its greatest natural assets - the Hudson River. According to Supervisor Linda Puglisi, the town will get $50,000 in state money to fund a feasibility study, conceptual design and facility planning for the proposed Hudson River Environmental Educational Center in the hamlet of Verplanck.

Pipeline protesters face trespassing charges

Four demonstrators who got inside part of pipe while protesting the controversial Algonquin Natural Gas Pipeline in Verplanck are facing trespassing charges this morning. The protesters reached a deal with a state police tactical team on Monday evening before crawling out of the pipe around 11:30 p.m. Spectra Energy is building the controversial project that expands the natural gas pipeline underground.

Four demonstrators who crawled into a pipe to stop construction at the Algonquin pipeline project in Verplanck reached a deal with a state police tactical team on Monday evening. The protesters negotiated a deal with police that they will only face reduced charges of criminal trespass if they come out on their own by 12 p.m. Tuesday.

Four protesters who crawled inside lengths of pipeline along the Hudson River to stop Spectra Energy from dragging its 42-inch diameter, high-pressure, methane gas pipeline under the Hudson River, remain inside the pipe late Monday. The protesters have been inside the pipe for more than seven hours after sneaking into the work area earlier Monday, said Nancy Vann of Resist Spectra.

Verplanck teens charged with burglary

State police say Miguel Reyes and Benjamin Knowles, both 18, were captured on surveillance video breaking into the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society on Highland Avenue in July. Reyes was sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu on $1,500 bail, while Knowles was released on his own recognizance.

Two Teens Charged In Northern Westchester Italian-American Club Burglary

Miguel Reyes and Benjaman Knowles, both 18-year-olds from Verplanck, were charged with burglary in the third degree, . Reyes was arrested on July 18 while Knowles was arrested on August 6. Knowles was also charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under 21. The men forcibly entered the area, which is an nonprofit Italian-American Club at 155 Highland Ave. in Verplanck, police said.
