Family Honors Late Jean McMahon Amodio By Establishing Scholarship for Stepinac HS Students

White Plains Firefighters Mourn Passing Of Former Chief ‘Bill’ McMahon

White Plains firefighters were mourning the loss of their former chief, William J. McMahon, who died Monday at the age of 93. Current Chief Richard Lyman, who has been with the department for 40 years, said Thursday that he has served under four wonderful chiefs, but none were as special to him as "Bill," as McMahon was called. "He encouraged me throughout by career, kept me on track and kept in close touch even after he retired," Lyman said.

Funeral services have been set for Robby Schartner, a Manhattanville College lacrosse player who was hit and killed by an allegedly drunken driver as he was walking back to his school dorm around 5 a.m. Sunday. Schartner, 21, who graduated from Brookfield, Conn., High School, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was hit by a 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by 24-year-old Emma Fox, of Rye at Westchester Avenue and Anderson Hill Road in White Plains.
