Mabelle Adele Thompson, the youngest of five children born to Mabelle and Arthur Giddings, grew up in Yonkers, N.Y., with her siblings Arthur, Curtis, Elizabeth, and George. Following graduation from Gorton High School, she commuted daily to Barnard College in New York City, as black students were not allowed to reside on the Barnard campus.

US playwright Neil Simon dies

US playwright Neil Simon, who became one of Broadway's most prolific and popular playwrights as he combined humor, drama and introspection in works such as The Odd Couple , The Goodbye Girl and Lost in Yonkers , has died. He was 91. Simon died on Sunday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City of complications from pneumonia, Broadway theatre representatives DKC/O&M said in a statement.

Marie P. Cipriano, 64, of Charles Town, WV passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD Born August 1, 1953 in Yonkers, New York, she was the daughter of the late Carl Pisacano and Doris Brady Pisacano. Marie was a very dedicated teacher's assistant in Jefferson County and was devoted to the hearts and needs of the autistic children.
