Westchester Pork Manufacturer Recalls Salami, Other Meat Products

A Westchester County pork manufacturer is recalling more than 5,000 pounds of salami products that were misbranded and contained an undeclared allergen. On Friday, the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services announced it was recalling 5,750 pounds of product from the Mamaroneck-based Picone Meat Specialities.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced Tuesday that Joann Perrino, a 60-year-old Yonkers resident, pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $1 million from her employer. The district attorney’s office said Perrino initiated transfers and wrote checks from her employer’s account to pay for personal expenses, including car and mortgage payments, travel expenses, spa treatments and, on one occasion, a $4,366 shopping spree on clothes.

A Westchester woman is facing more than a decade in prison after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $1 million from her victim while serving as a part-time personal assistant over the span of five years. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino said Tuesday that Yonkers resident Joann Perrino, 60, pleaded guilty to second-degree grand larceny after utilizing her victim’s bank accounts for her own benefit, totaling $987,428.87 between January 2009 and May 2014.

Westchester Exceeds HUD Mandate With 790th Affordable Housing Unit

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced Tuesday that more than 750 affordable housing units have been developed, a major milestone in the county’s federal agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Under the terms of the 2009 settlement reached between HUD and county government, Westchester is required to spend at least $51.6 million to develop 750 units of affordable housing by the end of this year in 31 mostly white communities.
