Ossining’s Mike Risko Music Named Westchester ‘Outstanding Family Business’

Mike Risko, of Mike Risko Music in Ossining, was recognized as the owner of one of Westchester County’s most outstanding family-owned businesses at an awards ceremony in White Plains last week. The company, in business for 22 years as a music store, school and performing arts center, was one of 26 family-owned businesses in Westchester and Fairfield County, Conn., honored this year by Westfair Communications, Inc., publisher of the Westchester County Business Journal, Fairfield County Business Journal and WAG, a regional lifestyle magazine.

County Golf Courses Scheduled to Open

Northern Westchester Man Pleads Guilty To Check Forging

An Ossining man pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges following a two-year investigation by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino said Friday that 24-year-old Devante Rainey has pleaded guilty to individual counts of identity theft and criminal possession of a forgery device for his role in an elaborate scheme.

County Legislature Democrats Introduce Immigrant Protection Act

Members of the Westchester County Board of Legislators Democratic Caucus introduced an Act Wednesday, aimed to alleviate many of the concerns surrounding inhumane treatment of their immigrant brothers and sisters and the fear working with local law enforcement often instills in them. The bill, titled the “Immigrant Protection Act”, codifies existing County policy while also drawing from model ordinances put forth by the New York Attorney General’s office with the intent to ensure all Westchester County residents are protected.

Westchester Exceeds HUD Mandate With 790th Affordable Housing Unit

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino announced Tuesday that more than 750 affordable housing units have been developed, a major milestone in the county’s federal agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Under the terms of the 2009 settlement reached between HUD and county government, Westchester is required to spend at least $51.6 million to develop 750 units of affordable housing by the end of this year in 31 mostly white communities.
