Former Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh on Saturday 21 January at about twenty minutes to 2am read out a statement on GRTS TV spelling out that he will relinquish power. This was after several hours of discussion with President Alpha Conde of Guinea Conakry and President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.

Gambia leader, pressured to go, declares state of emergency

Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh declared a state of emergency on Tuesday, just two days before he is supposed to cede power after losing elections last month. The longtime leader is refusing to step down despite international pressure and the threat by other West African nations of a military intervention.
