Chemicals banned in the 70s are found in ocean trenches

Poisonous chemicals used in manufacturing in the 1930s can still be found in the deepest parts of the ocean – even though they were banned more than 40 years ago. The toxins, known as Persistent Organic Pollutants , were outlawed in the 1970s after it was discovered that they can escape into the environment and cause lasting damage to wildlife.
