FEMA opens disaster recovery center in Baker

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening another disaster recovery center in Baker to provide assistance for those affected by the floods. The center, at the Baker Council on Aging, 3334 Jefferson St., will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the indefinite future.

Flooding puts schools in bind

BAKER, La. Twenty-two school districts across southern Louisiana were forced to close last week by a historic flood, delaying or interrupting the start of the school year for tens of thousands of children.
