H&R Block turns to AI to tackle your tax return

H&R Block , the tax services company, is betting that customers will be willing to have A.I. assist their human tax preparers in getting them the biggest refunds possible or at least reduce how much they owe. The company, which has about 12,000 offices in the U.S. and prepares 24.2 million tax returns worldwide, is using IBM’s A.I.-based Watson to do it.

Arkansas bill aimed at forcing Amazon to collect sales taxes

Forcing Amazon and other e-commerce companies to collect Arkansas sales taxes could generate up to $100 million annually in extra revenue, a senator said Wednesday, arguing his plan would put the state in a better position to enact deeper tax cuts in two years. The Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee on Wednesday advanced a proposal that would require out-of-state companies with no physical presence in the state to collect the tax if they sell more than $100,000 worth of products or make at least 200 transactions.

Police, while interrogating 26-year-old Central Reserve Police Force constable Manish Kumar – who was arrested for allegedly filing a fake Income Tax return on behalf of actress Kareena Kapoor-Khan, claim that the accused had attempted to get PAN card details of at least three other actresses. Kumar planned to file fake I-T returns online using the PAN details of the actors in the hope that he would get their contact details from the I-T department’s acknowledgment section.

Cuffs on Kareena’s I-T account hacker

The cyber police on Monday arrested a 26-year-old man, who has been serving in a central paramilitary force, for allegedly hacking actor Kareena Kapoor-Khan’s income tax e-filing account. When the actress tried to file her income tax returns, she found that her account was hacked and someone had already filed an income tax return of Rs 8 lakh on her behalf.
