Minnesota lawmakers riled by free tickets in stadium suites

The oversight authority for the Minnesota Vikings’ new stadium issued nearly half of the tickets for a pair of luxury suites to friends and family of top officials and leased a third suite used for state profit, the state’s legislative auditor said Tuesday while releasing a report on the suite usage at U.S. Bank Stadium. Republican legislators condemned the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority during the hearing of the Office of the Legislative Auditor investigation that raised concerns about sloppy record-keeping and a continued lack of oversight of the organization’s practice of giving away tickets for games and concerts at the new downtown Minneapolis stadium, which was partially funded by the public.

FIFA appoints CONMEBOL president to chair finance panel

FIFA says Alejandro Dominguez of Paraguay leads the new eight-member panel, which includes two independent officials from outside soccer. Dominguez won the CONMEBOL election last year after his predecessor, Juan Angel Napout, was indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice in a soccer racketeering case and arrested in Switzerland.

Volkswagen, regulators get more time to seek emissions deal

Volkswagen, U.S. regulators and attorneys for vehicle owners have made “substantial progress” on a deal for the remaining 80,000 diesel cars caught in the company’s emissions cheating scandal but need more time to negotiate, a federal judge said Friday. U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer in San Francisco gave the parties until Monday to report back on whether they had reached a settlement.
