Mercy College Awarded Over $1.4 Million by National Science Foundation

Mercy College was awarded a $1.4 million grant by the National Science Foundation's Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program for a six-year project. The project will prepare 14 in-service master math and science teachers to become Master Teacher Fellows and leaders in their high-need school districts - Elmsford, New Rochelle, Port Chester and Yonkers - with a particular focus on recruiting teachers from underrepresented groups in STEM fields.

Grady Elementary School in the Elmsford Union Free School District were reminded of making healthy lifestyle choices during a fun interactive presentation that took place in the school's cafeteria April 29 called "Home Run Against Drugs Give a Book Program." The presentation, delivered by Kemi Pogue, program director of Home Run Against Drugs, is designed to educate youth about choosing a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Elmsford Students Witness Gov. Cuomo’s Annual State Of State Speech At SUNY

Twenty-five students from Alexander Hamilton Jr./Sr. High School in the Elmsford Union Free School District got the opportunity to witness Gov. Andrew Cuomo's State of the State address on Jan. 10 at SUNY Purchase College. The students came away from the experience with questions about the governor's budget proposals and were disappointed that he hadn't addressed issues concerning K-12 education, according to a release from the district.

The Elmsford Board of Education, combined with village trustees and Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, renewed a joint commitment to anti-bullying on Wednesday, Oct. 5, during a special board meeting held in the district's Alice E. Grady Elementary School gym. Mayor Robert Williams applauded the initiative, saying the reason for its success has been due to the strong partnership that exists between all three entities and the efforts that have been made to highlight the negative effects of bullying.
