Expect Delays: Weekslong Sprain Brook Parkway Lane Closures Scheduled

There will be single and double lane closures on the Sprain Brook Parkway for more than two weeks as contracting crews continue construction activity in Westchester County. The New York State Department of Transportation issued an alert on Wednesday, warning that there will be closures beginning on Monday, Aug. 27 in Mount Pleasant, Greenburgh and Elmsford as crews work in the area.

Following the sentencing of a former New Rochelle schools director and contractor who were embroiled in a corruption scheme, a former secretary at the district is in hot water with the law after allegedly stealing more than $35,000 over a five-year scam. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced this week that Elmsford resident Marisol Martell, 37, who worked as a school secretary in New Rochelle was arraigned on a 49-count felony complaint in local court over the alleged theft.

Four local lawmakers have written to Gov. Andrew Cuomo reminding him of his promise to sign legislation authorizing the imposition of municipal occupancy fees in certain Westchester and Orange communities. In a letter dated Thursday, Dec. 29, the members of the state Assembly noted that in late 2015, the governor had vetoed a series of hotel occupancy tax bills that would have affected 13 municipalities in Westchester County - Greenburgh, North Castle, Tarrytown, Irvington, Ardsley, Elmsford, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Sleepy Hollow, Tuckahoe, Mamaroneck, Harrison and Port Chester - and one in Orange County, Woodbury.
