Irvington Goes Back To School

Teachers and administrators at the Irvington Union Free School District welcomed students to their first day of school on Tuesday. "There is a great deal of excitement across the district as a result of the arrival of our students," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kristopher Harrison said.

50 Students From Harrison H.S. Advance To Statewide Business Competition

Attending the Regional DECA business competition were 41 Harrison students, according to a statement from the Harrison school district, which said that 33 received awards in various business competitions. A majority of the students will move on to statewide competition, the school district said, adding that 17 students who did not have to attend the regionals have written papers and will be presenting there ideas at the state competition from March 8-10 in Rochester.

Port Chester High School Students Perform In NY Music Festival

Eight students from Port Chester High School, which serves parts of Port Chester and Rye Brook, performed in the annual New York State School Music Association's Area All-State Music Festival Nov. 10 at Purchase College in Harrison. Vocalists Gisella McCallion, soprano; Taylor Masi, alto; and Robert Perrone, tenor; performed with the Area All-State Mixed Choir.

Teachers Learn About Active Learning At BOCES Workshop

Educators from all over the Hudson Valley got a feel for how active learning should take place at the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center's Active Learning Center in Harrison on Aug. 22 and 23. The interactive seminar helped educators learn to teach in an active learning space and to prepare for their own transition to an educational setting that is intended to be more flexible, mobile and engaging than that of the traditional classroom. Teachers from the Byram Hills, Croton Harmon, Hastings, Ossining, Pelham, New Rochelle and Rye City school districts were the first to participate.
