The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health advisory for Westchester and Rockland on Sunday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for ozone, the National Weather Service said.
A storm system will bring a mixed bag of precipitation to the area Monday night through early Wednesday, but there is still uncertainty as to the exact timing and type of precipitation expected, the National Weather Service said. Areas south of Interstate 287 in the Hudson Valley should see all rain from the storm, starting overnight Monday into Tuesday.
A storm streaking across the Upper Midwest is forecast to bring snow to the area on Tuesday, dropping anywhere from one to three inches of the powdery stuff to the Hudson Valley before midnight, according to the National Weather Service. The snow should move in sometime during the morning Tuesday and bring with it a wind-chill factor between 15 and 25 degrees.
Areas farther south have a higher chance for snow with an inch possible in New York City and the most southern areas of Westchester. Monday will be a cloudy day with a high in the low 30s and a wind-chill value between 20 and 25. Snow is even more likely Tuesday, with a coating to an inch of snow possible in the area, according to AccuWeather.com, adding that it only takes a small amount of snow to cause slippery spots on roadways.
With temperatures set to soar into the 90s with real-free temperature reaching around 100 degrees in much of the area, the National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for Wednesday. The alert is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and includes Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties.
