Warm, wet weather to dampen smorgasbord of Wellington events

Wellingtonians will be spoiled for choice with a haul of events around the region expected under warm but wet skies this weekend. Start at the Island Bay Festival then head for the Petone Rotary Fair in Lower Hutt, BrewDay in Trentham, Wings over Wairarapa near Masterton, and then hit the Art Deco Festival in Napier.

Common Ground Festival Calling for Groundwater Samples

Common Ground: Hutt Public Art Festival is calling for samples from Hutt Valley residents of their local groundwater! Citizens are invited to get its quality tested and contribute to a new art installation ‘ Citizens’ Water Map Lab ‘ by visual artist Julian Priest. Hutt Valley residents are invited to bring in a plastic milk bottle filled with groundwater from their local stream, river, well, bore or even puddle, to the front desk of The Dowse Art Museum from Monday 30 January.

Napier deco building echoed with 60s music

A century-old retail building for sale in the heart of Napier’s Art Deco District, was once home to renowned Gaiety Theatre and Top Hat music venues Bayleys Hawke’s Bay and Bayleys Auckland are jointly marketing the historic building, at 88-94 Dickens St, which will be auctioned on March 8. Napier drinking water E.coli contamination test results due Friday

The results of further testing to determine if the bacteria is present in the city’s main reservoir are due by 3pm, Napier City Council said on Friday morning. The council began chlorinating its water supply on Thursday after receiving a positive indicator test for E.coli in a sample taken from its Enfield Road reservoir as part on routine testing carried out on Wednesday.

Those in the South Islands and lower-North Island are being told to brace for severe weather as a bomb low prepares to touch down. At 4am, the fire service said it had not received any weather-related callouts overnight, but the worst of the storm was expected to whip the South Island and lower-North Island with heavy rain and gale-force winds on Wednesday, through to Thursday morning.

Police name couple as investigations continue into deaths in Waipukurau, Hawke’s Bay

Police have named the two people found dead at a Waipukurau, Hawke’s Bay home as Kevin Douglas Maulder, 68, and Patricia Anne Maulder, 67. They also said on Sunday afternoon that nobody was being sought in connection with the deaths and the case had been referred to the coroner’s office. The Maulders were husband and wife, and had lived and worked in the Waipukurau area for more than three decades..

Child hospitalised after dog bite
