Leeds singing star Curtis wows on Let It Shine

Self-taught pianist and songwriter Curtis Johns, 23, gave a stunning performance on Saturday night’s episode of Let It Shine, which aims to find five men to form a boyband to star in a Take That-themed musical. Curtis, who grew up in Seacroft and has written songs for X-Factor star Matt Cardle, performed a cover of a track by another local artist – Corinne Bailey Rae’s Put Your Records On.

Review: Cafe Enzo, Kirkstall, Leeds

Cafe Enzo on Kirkstall Road is an old favourite, its owners are stalwarts of the local dining cognoscenti and over the years it has cemented its reputation so well that even the 2015 Boxing Day floods couldn’t budge it. Tougher English tests could be introduced for cab drivers across West Yorkshire

Calderdale Council is expected next week to approve the introduction of an in-house English test for all new applications for both hackney carriage and private hire licences. A report to the authority’s licensing and regulatory committee outlines that this is set to be part of a consistent approach across the region, whereby all authorities are considering introducing a minimum standard equivalent to ESOL Level 3. But Bradford is still considering options when it comes to making changes to its current English test for cabbies, it has emerged.
