Warm, wet weather to dampen smorgasbord of Wellington events

Wellingtonians will be spoiled for choice with a haul of events around the region expected under warm but wet skies this weekend. Start at the Island Bay Festival then head for the Petone Rotary Fair in Lower Hutt, BrewDay in Trentham, Wings over Wairarapa near Masterton, and then hit the Art Deco Festival in Napier.

Napier deco building echoed with 60s music

A century-old retail building for sale in the heart of Napier’s Art Deco District, was once home to renowned Gaiety Theatre and Top Hat music venues Bayleys Hawke’s Bay and Bayleys Auckland are jointly marketing the historic building, at 88-94 Dickens St, which will be auctioned on March 8. The property for sale is featured in Bayleys’ latest Total Property portfolio and comprises a 1430sq m two-storey building on 911sq m of land zoned Inner-City Commercial. Bayleys salespeople Paul Dixon and Carolyn Hanson describe the building as “a cultural treasure”, noting potential future uses may include retail, apartment and office space.

Napier drinking water E.coli contamination test results due Friday

The results of further testing to determine if the bacteria is present in the city’s main reservoir are due by 3pm, Napier City Council said on Friday morning. The council began chlorinating its water supply on Thursday after receiving a positive indicator test for E.coli in a sample taken from its Enfield Road reservoir as part on routine testing carried out on Wednesday.

Child hospitalised after dog bite

The boy was flown at 2am this morning from Wairoa to Napier in the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter before being put on an aircraft to Wellington.
