As the state government last year celebrated June 9 as Child Protection Day, Ghosh was honoured on behalf of the Darjeeling district administration for exemplary work towards child protection. Months after being felicitated by the state government for his contribution towards child protection, the West Bengal CID on Friday arrested Mrinal Ghosh, the Darjeeling district child protection officer , along with a registered medical practitioner – who is also a member of the Darjeeling Child Welfare Committee – for their alleged involvement in the Jalpaiguri child trafficking racket.

West Bengal: Ex-minister sacked as college council chief

Former state minister Abdul Karim Chowdhury was, on Friday, sacked as president of the governing body of North Dinajpur’s Islampur College and chairpersonship of the North Bengal Development Council. Man accused of killing parents, girlfriend, brought to Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 7 – Bhopal resident Udayan Das, who was arrested for allegedly killing his parents and live-in partner, was taken to Bankura Aby a team of West Bengal Police officers on Monday late night. The state Police said the accused was taken to West Bengal’s Bankura district by road directly from the metropolis, where he was flown earlier in the evening.

West Bengal: TMC leader arrested for vandalizing police station in Burdwan

Kolkata/Burdwan, Jan 29 : Hours after a police station was ransacked by angry mob over a local issue in West Bengal’s Burdwan district, police on Saturday night arrested at least eleven persons, including a local leader of ruling Trinamool Congress , in connection with the case, reports said. Bengal CM announces three more hill developmental boards

Siliguri, Jan 22 – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced the formation of three more developmental boards for hill people and rolled out a Rs 100-crore project for tea garden workers. She claimed that the state government could have done much more developmental work for the hill people if it had complete control over local municipalities and the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration , a semi-autonomous body that administers the Darjeeling hills.
