President Donald Trump met with Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates at the White House on Monday, just days after releasing a budget proposal that would impose deep cuts on funding for many of the causes championed by the billionaire philanthropist. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, funded with an initial investment of $460 million from Germany, Japan, Norway, the Wellcome Trust and the Gates foundation, aims to develop vaccines against known infectious disease threats that could be deployed quickly to contain outbreaks before they become global health emergencies, the group said in a statement at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Gates Foundation to Sell 60 Million Berkshire Shares in New Plan
The foundation started by billionaire Bill Gates and his wife intends to sell 60 million Class B shares of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. from July 1 of this year through June 30 of 2020. The plan will replace a three-year program that began in 2014 and ends on June 30, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said in a regulatory filing Tuesday.
Gates Foundation Invests Up to $140 Million in Intarcia for HIV
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will invest as much as $140 million in closely held Intarcia Therapeutics Inc. to develop a device that could help prevent HIV infections. The Gates Foundation will provide $50 million upfront for Intarcia to develop an anti-HIV therapy that uses its implanted device.
