E-Learning Enters Bot Era as Pearson Taps IBM’s Watson as Tutor

The world's largest education company is leveraging IBM's Watson platform as it tries to take college tutoring from campus libraries to the virtual world. Pearson Plc is partnering with Armonk, New York-based International Business Machines Corp. to use the Watson artificial intelligence product as an online tutor for college courseware.

IBM shares fall after earnings; sales come in flat

Overall revenue at International Business Machines Corp. edged lower, falling for the 18th consecutive quarter, even as the company saw some growth in newer businesses such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence. The Armonk, N.Y., company reported third-quarter earnings Monday, saying that revenue for the quarter was $19.23 billion, down 0.3%, as the company has attempted to transition into new lines of business as its core products have become increasingly pressured by the move to computing services delivered over the internet.

IBM’s quarterly revenue falls 1.3 percent

International Business Machines Corp forecast full-year earnings above Wall Street estimates and reported better-than-expected quarterly revenue, helped by growth in newer areas such as cloud-based services and analytics. The Armonk, New York-based company forecast adjusted earnings of at least $13.80 per share for fiscal 2017, beating the average analyst estimate of $13.74, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
