Governor Cuomo Inspects Indian Point Nuclear Facility By Boat and Provides Update on Oil Spill

Buchanan, NY - October 2, 2016 - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today inspected Indian Point Nuclear Facility by boat and provided an update on the State's response to an oil spill reported at the facility. On Friday, September 30, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation immediately responded after being notified by Entergy that an unspecified amount of oil leaked from a heat exchanger into a cooling water discharge canal inside the facility.

Oil Spill Reported At Indian Point Nuclear Point Plant

Westchester County and state officials were informed by officials at Buchanan-based Indian Point nuclear power plant after they observed Friday morning oil in a discharge canal that empties into the Hudson River. The oil was used to lubricate machinery and is not radioactive, Indian Point said, noting the plant is running safely and there is no impact on worker or public health or safety, Indian Point said that its staff identified an oil sheen in the plant's discharge canal Friday morning and has not detected any sheening in the Hudson River.

Anti-Pipeline Activists Call On Congress To Probe FERC

More than 100 grassroots organizations are claiming that a federal agency's handling of gas pipeline projects - such as the one near the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan - is flawed. The coalition is calling for a congressional review of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission , according to Maya van Rossum, head of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network and a primary organizer of the effort.
