Fire turns deadly in Peekskill

Fire officials say flames broke out in a multifamily home on 936 Diven St. around 5:15 a.m. today. Firefighters from Croton, Montrose and Buchanan responded with mutual aid. Neighbors tell News 12 there has been numerous flare-ups that have kept firefighters busy.

Macy’s Employee Stole From Store’s Cash Registers, Yorktown Police Say

A Lake Peekskill woman accused of stealing from the Macy's store at the Jefferson Valley Mall is facing a petty larceny charge, according to police. Camelia J. Ferraro was arrested on Dec. 23 after store security accused her of stealing $120 from two store registers about a week earlier, according to Yorktown police, who said the 20-year-old store employee turned herself in after Macy's security reported the alleged theft to authorities.

Leading the singers at the Beanrunner Cafe will be Lisa Gutkin, a violinist and vocalist for the Grammy-winning klezmer band, The Klezmatics, and well-known local musician Fred Gillen Jr. Gutkin and Gillen, both compatriots of the late folksinger, environmental champion and activist Pete Seeger, just started performing as a duo this fall.

Peekskill Rings In 2017 With Annual Polar Plunge

Peekskill residents will be shivering for a good reason when they take the charge into icy waters during the 5th annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, Jan. 1. Planned by the This is Me Foundation, and sponsored by The Quiet Man Public House, all proceeds from the plunge go towards college scholarships for local students who have faced adversity, or helped a friend through adversity, as well as national scholarships to students who have alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. Wrong-Way Driver Slams Head-On Into State Trooper On Route 6 In Cortlandt

A New York State Police trooper was involved in a head-on collision in Peekskill Monday night when a driver strayed through a double yellow and struck an officer traveling from the Cortlandt barracks. Police confirmed that shortly after 6:15 p.m. on Monday night, a trooper was traveling westbound on Bear Mountain Bridge Road, when a driver in a Nissan sedan "failed to keep right and crossed into the westbound lane," where he struck the trooper head-on.

Peekskill Opens Warming Center

Police Chief Eric Johansen announced the city will be opening a warming center at the Neighborhood Center at 4 Nelson Ave. The warming center will be open Thursday until 8:00 p.m., Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. During this period of extreme cold, people are reminded to check on family members and friends, especially the elderly; and to keep their pets indoors, Johansen said.
