Rye Ridge Shopping Center, Plaza and South are excited to announce that Compass, a residential real estate office, has signed a long term lease for 1410 square feet in the Shopping Center. Compass will be located adjacent ZLife Denim Lounge. 

Compass, originally, was a real estate technology company, founded in 2012 and headquartered in New York City. Since its inception the company has experienced tremendous growth spurred by massive cash investments and in 2014 announced they would enter the real estate business contracting independent real estate agents and taking a cut of the commission.

Currently they operate out of 19 major markets and announced in 2018 that they plan to go international. In 2018, after a $400 million investment the company had a valuation of $4.4 billion.

DAILY VOICE: Three Responsible For Release Of Mercury In Westchester Village Settle Case

Three companies have reached a settlement with the United States Attorney’s Office to clean up mercury at a Westchester County Superfund Site.

Robert Khuzami, an Attorney for the United States announced that they have reached an agreement with Columbia Gas Transmission LLC, Henry Schein, Inc., and Union Carbide Corporation, to recoup funds the EPA incurred for more than a decade in connection with its clean-up of mercury at the Port Refinery Superfund Site in Rye Brook.

As part of the agreement, the three companies have agreed to pay a combined $179,647.

According to the U.S. Attorney, each of the three companies arranged for the sale and transport of used or scrap mercury, or mercury-containing products, directly or indirectly to Port Refinery, Inc, which was a mercury refining business out of a Rye Brook residence.

Port Refinery’s treatment and processing of the scrap mercury sent by the companies and other parties led to extensive releases of mercury in the area, requiring two separate clean-up actions by the EPA.

During the second clean-up, which began in 2004, the EPA incurred costs at the site for a variety of investigative and clean-up activities, including the excavation and disposing of more than 9,300 tons of mercury-contaminated soil from the site…..

Uninsured, Unregistered Snow Plow Crashes On Icy Roads In Rye Brook

About 1 p.m., the private plow driver suffered elbow pain and other minor injuries after crashing into another vehicle near North Ridge Street and Ridge Boulevard, according to Rye Brook Police Chief Gregory Austin. Two of the three teenagers that were accused of stealing packages from a home in Scarsdale earlier this month have been arrested again by police in Rye Brook on similar charges. At approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, patrol officers in Scarsdale reported that they observed a teenager – who was later identified as 19-year-old Orange County resident Sebastian Garcia – running down the driveway of a Montrose Road home with a package – taken from the from the front of the property – and entering a gray four-door sedan parked out front.
