Foes of a controversial gas pipeline project sang as they marched to the spot where Spectra Energy crews were drilling Friday in Verplanck, according to a spokeswoman for one of the activist groups. Once there, a few of the 30 or so protesters attempted to block construction vehicles and were arrested, said Nancy Vann of ResistAIM.
State police say Miguel Reyes and Benjamin Knowles, both 18, were captured on surveillance video breaking into the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society on Highland Avenue in July. Reyes was sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu on $1,500 bail, while Knowles was released on his own recognizance.
Miguel Reyes and Benjaman Knowles, both 18-year-olds from Verplanck, were charged with burglary in the third degree, . Reyes was arrested on July 18 while Knowles was arrested on August 6. Knowles was also charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under 21. The men forcibly entered the area, which is an nonprofit Italian-American Club at 155 Highland Ave. in Verplanck, police said.
