Theodore W. “Ted” McCarthy: Verplanck Contractor And Painter Was 59
Theodore W. “Ted” McCarthy, 59, a talented contractor and painter who was working at the Cortlandt/ Mohegan Home Depot, died suddenly Feb. 2 at his home in Verplanck, Westchester County.
Mr. McCarthy was born in Albany and raised in upstate New York, primarily Fairport. After Fairport High School, he enrolled in the U.S. Army and was discharged following honorable service in the Pacific islands.
He studied at Orange County Community College, held various positions in business and served as a volunteer physical therapist/ rehabilitation aide at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Montrose, but his calling was contracting and painting.
Mr. McCarthy started and operated his own painting business in the Capital Region and held positions in Florida and the Bahamas before moving to the Mid-Hudson area, where he found great satisfaction assisting and sharing his knowledge with customers as a Home Depot associate.
Ted spent his free time fishing, boating, bicycling and experimenting with photography. He was known for his quick wit, gregarious nature and generosity. He was an avid baseball fan, and in fact was named for Hall of Famer Ted Williams.
Theodore William McCarthy is survived by his parents, Michael J. McCarthy Jr. and Maureen McCarthy, of Clifton Park, N.Y., and his four siblings: Michael J. McCarthy III (Karen) of Okatie, S.C.; Margaret Mary (Brian) McDonald of South Salem, N.Y.; Kathleen (John) Caher of Clifton Park, N.Y.; and Mary (Terry) Bruno of Malabar, Fl. He is also survived by five nieces, four nephews and two great nephews. He leaves behind his longtime and loyal companion, Jean Nealon of Schenectady, N.Y., and their beloved dog, Riley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date this spring.

A Good Dog Rescue’s Lisa Smith Is A Dog’s Best Friend
Fairfield Daily Voice
Lisa Smith knows dogs. The Ossining resident has fostered dogs for the past eight years, working with eight major rescue organizations in the area.
She is co-owner of Canine Kindergarten, a doggie daycare started over 15 years ago in Verplanck and now with two additional locations in Mount Kisco and Yorktown. And, as of October of last year, Smith is the founder of A Good Dog Rescue.
Since she started, Smith has adopted out over 1,000 dogs in the tri-state area, doing about 10 adoptions a week (with an adoption costing new owners about $200 to $450). Smith finds most of her foster dogs from local area high-kill shelters……
