STATEMENT: From City Council President Mike Khader About Youth Employment In Yonkers

Opportunities For Young People

“This week we hosted our first annual Youth Employment Workshop hosted at St. Peters-St. Denis School in partnership with a number of local non-profits and organizations.

The workshop began as an idea after hearing from parents and community leaders about the need for our youth to stay engaged and do something productive during the summer months.

I saw an opportunity to bridge the gap between young adults and the many available jobs in Yonkers – by connecting them with organizations that can help empower our youth to find employment this summer and beyond.

We had a packed house of interested youth who met with our partners to learn about the tools available to them that would help in their search.
In addition to helping our youth find employment,

I equally believe that Yonkers deserves recognition as a place worthy of investment by major companies.

Yonkers is primed to stand among other economic powerhouses and contribute to our burgeoning economy.

Not only as Council President, but as a father and life-long resident of Yonkers, I promise to continue working my hardest for our great city.

By investing in our youth, we can ensure that Yonkers will always stay hard at work, be an attractive option for businesses to invest in, and a place where people can come to work and raise a family.

The message is clear, Yonkers is ready to work, and we are willing to invest in our kids and future.”
